Super cute place!! I had never stayed at a hostel before but and was a bit apprehensive for my first time but I am SUCH a fan now. The front desk girl helped me and my friend end up in the same room which was super clutch as we had made bookings in different rooms by accident. The amenities are super clean and convenient. Location is amazing. We just walked to all the bars and food/shopping. Free parking too! Coming from the bay this is so appreciated. Made a little snack and some drinks too with ease :) The owners and their friends are the nicest people. Super down to earth and answered all our questions and were down to just hang and have a good time. Genuinely sad that we weren't in South Lake for longer but looking forward to the next time for sure!!
This is a fantastic hostel. Wonderful staff, really cute and clean. The location is really convenient and the prices are amazing. If you’re looking for a warm, friendly, no-stress place to stay, stay here! Would give 6 stars if I could!
You can't beat staying here if you're looking for a no frills place. I stayed here three nights, bookending a backpacking trip, in the dorm rooms. Kitchen was great. Price was great. Location was to die for. They have plenty of storage space under the beds for all your gear, a fan for your bunk (genius, pure genius), more outlets to charge everything that you need) and sheets/pillow. Right next to the dispensery, beach, village, etc. This is the only place I would stay in the area.
Private room for 5 nights was clean and comfortable with Roku TV, new tile shower, and mini fridge. Great location and friendly team. Can't wait to go back!
I was a little taken back upon our arrival there was no one in the office. Also when we got to the room the door was open and there was a gentleman inside. Who said oh he didn't know that you share rooms? We were a little shocked as we thought we had a room to ourselves and there was a stranger there (all the way from Russia). Good thing was we got to talk to him about Ya'ha'wha'shi (Jesus Christ). Was very noisy through the wee hours of the morning was a lot of people drinking. Seemed like more of a party hotel.
The staff at Mountain Mellow are phenomenal! They showed me the property after I checked in and allowed me to store by flight bag in their garage while I was out backpacking in the region (5$ Fee for this). When I unfortunately had to cut my hike short, I returned to the hostel to collect my flight bag they allowed me to use their computer room so that I could revise my travel arrangements.
The night I stayed here, the community of folks were awesome! I had some great conversations with the folks who were staying here. This added to the unique experience of staying in a Hostel.
Within a few blocks, you have good dining options, the lakeshore, and the casinos (not big into casinos personally, but hey, the option is there.)
When I return to Tahoe to finish the TRT, I will definitely stay here again. It is a business that supports the community of people that surround outdoor adventure!
Everything was so well organized! Really enjoyed my stay here. The common room really stood out to me as it provides everything you need for cooking and for the well being. Will definitely come back when I get a chance!
Kinda noisy when people walk outside the room, the kicten is awesome, they had fried pan to cook and lots of seasoning stuff, and its easy to chat with others traveler.
